Edward Stewart Gorham Jr. was born in San Francisco in 1915, the year of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. He graduated from UC Berkeley and began teaching in 1943 and received his first full-time teaching position at Francisco Junior High in 1946. Transferring to GWHS in 1947, he initially taught Math, Chemistry and Physics before specializing in Physics classes for 29 years. He spearheaded the computerization of GWHS in the late 1970s and retired in 1978.

Following his October 1982 passing, the school's first "computer lab" was opened in March 1983 and named for him, and colleagues fundraised to establish the Ed Gorham Scholarship for a senior outstanding in sciences such as Physics, Chemistry or Astronomy.

Your donation to the Gorham Fund will enable the award amount to grow each year to better assist outstanding college-bound science students.
